Carndonagh: Carn Domhnaigh - The cairn or pile of the Church founded by Saint Patrick (or Sunday cairn). Domhnach means Sunday and when this word is part of a place name, it is believed to mark a spot where Saint Patrick had a church built.

Desertegney: Diseart Eigne - Eigne's hermitage.

Templemoyle: Meampull Maol - Bare Church. There are a few of these, at Greencastle and near Buncrana

Fahan, Mura: Mura's sheltered spot.

Gransha: Grainnse - grange or church grainlands. There are a few places with this name. One is outside Buncrana near Templemoyle.

Clonmany: Cluain Maine or Cluain Manaigh - Maine's Meadow or Monk's Meadow, Maine was a hermit in the Mintiaghs area.

Gort Leac - the Field of the Flagstone. This field gave its name to the townland in Desertegney in which the ancient church is situated. Both of them were stations in a turas.
