Overview This spectacular walk follows a route through some of Donegal’s most impressive coastal scenery. Within a relatively short distance from the trail head the walker is in remote country with wonderful views (including Scotland on a fine day!).

4 kms north-east of Greencastle and on the western shore of Lough Foyle.

Topography and ground conditions
· Rugged hills and dramatic coastal cliffs/steep ground. The high ground is dominated by Crocknasmug (322 meters). Coastal views include Lough Foyle, the north coast of Inishowen and Northern Ireland, and Scotland on a fine day.
· Vegetation is predominantly upland heath.
· At upper elevations the land-use is primarily open grazing for sheep with some turf cutting. Lower down the land is enclosed agricultural land, domestic dwellings and some forestry.

Trailhead Gravel surfaced car park at Inishowen Head with space for around 6 cars. The trailhead is well signposted from the upper road between Stroove and Greencastle and from Stroove beach. Additional car parking spaces are needed to cater for busy periods.

Waymarkers and signage
· Black recycled plastic markers with blue walking person symbols and National Loop Walk arrows.
· Signs on road warning motorists of walkers on the road ahead.

Elevation & Climbing The highest point is 285m at the shoulder of Crocknasmug. The overall height gained is 230 meters. There are short stretches of steep climb with gradients up to 25%.
There are two principal stretches of climbing:
1. From Stroove to the shoulder of Crocknasmug – 230 meters over 2kms
2. From Glenane to Torcrom – 55m over 1km
