Rashenny Stone Alignment
- Rashenny This monument consist of four standing stones and
two that are collapsed, orientated in a north north-east,
south south-west direction. Two of the uprights are situated
alongside each other. There are very few of this type of site
in Donegal with major concentrations in West Cork/Kerry and
Derry/Tyrone/Fermanagh. They are dated to the Bronze Age and
are assigned a ritual function. They are aligned with the sun,
the moon or the stars perhaps. Few have been excavated and
very few finds have come from those that have been.
To visit Donagh Cross continue east on the R238. On the
approach to the town, outside the walls of Donagh Parish
Church, to the right are a group of early Christian monuments.
