The recollections of Charles Mc Glinchey (1861-1955), weaver and tailor, that are gathered together in The Last of the Name, were the inspirationfor the themes of all the Summer Schools to date. This year, as all Donegalcommemorates the fourth Centenary of the Flight of the Earls, the McGlinchey Summer School takes this opportunity to explore Inishowen at thattime of our history. La Trinidad Valencera of Armada fame, the O'DohertyCastles and the Established Churches throughout the peninsula are physicalevidence of this period. The programme will feature among others Rosa O'Doherty 1591-1660 who sailed down the Swilly with the Earls in 1607, herbrother Cahir Rua who staged a rebellion in 1608. Clonmany's famousphilosopher John Toland (1670-1722) will be the subject of the openinglecture by Derry academic and novelist, Seamus Deane.
