The fisherman's
Co-operative is based at Portmor Pier situated near Ireland's most
northerly point. The whole complex, which is only a short number of
years in operation, handles all the catch from the local fishing boats,
and contains large purifying tanks for crab, lobster, oysters and
mussels which are then sent to a number of European countries including
Sweden, Germany, Italy and France in Vivier-Tanked lorries, thus
guaranteeing absolute freshness of the crustaceans on arrival. The
complex also contains space for storing bait and an ice-making plant,
which supplies the salmon boats with fresh ice during the summer season
when the main catch is Wild Atlantic Salmon and so once again ensuring
total freshness and highest quatlity produce. The co-op also sells
direct to the public and the manager, Charlie O'Donnell and staff are
always on hand to see that the purchaser is sent away with the best of
fresh, clean Atlantic produce.
